Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable Adults
Safeguarding Commitment Statement
The Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) hold the care, safety and well-being of children and vulnerable adults as a central and fundamental responsibility of our organisation. Children and vulnerable adults have a right to be safe and we commit to ensure and protect these rights in all Oblate ministries. We commit to policies and processes which reduce the likelihood of harm and respond appropriately to disclosures and allegations. We commit to providing the necessary resources to ensure compliance with all relevant child protection laws, regulations and the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards and to maintaining a child safe culture
OMI have a zero tolerance of child abuse and regards its child protection responsibilities with the upmost importance!
In furthering our commitment to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults the OMI acknowledges that all members throughout our network of schools and ministries must take individual responsibility for the safety of children and vulnerable adults in our care. These obligations are clearly articulated in the OMI Code of conduct.
Catholic Professional Standards Ltd (CPSL) was formed in response to the findings of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. Catholic Professional Standards Ltd is committed to fostering a culture of safety and care for children and vulnerable adults by developing the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards.
Recently the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate completed the ACSL Audit, which assess compliance against the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards. The safeguarding audit of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (Oblates) found that the Oblates have demonstrated compliance with 99 per cent of the indicators relevant to their operations under the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards.
Seven recommendations have been provided to the Oblates to strengthen their safeguarding practices. There are no Priority 1 (high rated) recommendations for the Oblates.
