It is always good to know that we can make a difference. Sometimes even a small act when joined with the generosity of others, becomes an instrument of change.
Our Founder, St Eugene De Mazenod, began his ministry to the poor of Aix-en-Provence with the help of like-minded priests. From the very beginning, he understood that partnership in mission was the only way to respond effectively to the spiritual and physical needs of the people. These early Oblates offered more than just words of hope- they formed a network of companions to walk alongside the poor, much like the early Disciples of the Church.
That same spirit continues today, both abroad and here at home.
Supporting the Global Mission: MAMI
The Missionary Associates of Mary Immaculate (MAMI) are an essential part of the De Mazenod Family. MAMI members offer their daily prayers, interest, and support to the worldwide mission of the Oblates, helping serve the poor and the most abandoned in places such as Sri Lanka, Kenya, Indonesia, China, Zimbabwe, and many more.
Through their generosity, MAMI members empower the work of the Oblates and help restore the dignity of those living in poverty.
Serving Locally: Rosies – Friends on the Street
Closer to home, Rosies VIC offers a powerful expression of that same mission. Every Wednesday and Friday night, volunteers bring warmth, friendship and dignity to those who are homeless, isolated or simply in need of connection on the streets of Melbourne.
Rosies doesn’t provide housing or counselling, instead, it provides something just as transformative: belonging. A free hot drink, a listening ear, and a consistent presence can restore hope in someone who has been overlooked by society.
