On August 3rd, Cannon Hill Parish marked 100 years of faith, worship, and community with a special centenary Mass celebrated by Archbishop Mark Coleridge. The celebration included memorabilia displays and recognition of the parish’s oldest members, honouring a century shaped by the dedication of priests and parishioners.
Cannon Hill was a diocesan parish for most of its history, with the Oblates of Mary Immaculate taking over pastoral care in 2017. The centenary brought together a great number of parishioners, both current and past, along with former priests and Oblates who had served the community.
Just weeks later, on August 17th, Lesmurdie Parish celebrated the 50th anniversary of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. The Mass was led by the Very Rev Vincent Glynn VG, together with the Oblate Fathers and visiting priests, followed by Morning Tea in the Parish Hall.
The Oblates began ministry in Lesmurdie in 1956 and served the parish faithfully until 2011, when it was handed back to the Archdiocese of Perth. In 2023, in what many describe as God’s providence, the Oblates resumed administration of the parish once again. The golden jubilee was a joyful reunion, drawing parishioners past and present together with previous parish priests and Oblates to give thanks for 50 years of faith and community.
Together, these anniversaries stand as a powerful testament to the enduring life of the Church in both Cannon Hill and Lesmurdie. May these milestones continue to inspire faith, service, and welcome for generations to come.
