Thanks Fr Christian, Welcome Fr Josh!
Last Sunday at our Oblate Youth Australia Family Mass, a very special moment took place. After 25 years of leading Oblate Youth Australia, Fr Christian Fini OMI officially handed over the reins as Director. We would like to take this moment to acknowledge his vision and energy that has guided so many young people into the heart of our Oblate family.
From the early days of shaping the first National Oblate Youth Encounters, to accompanying countless young people on pilgrimages, retreats, and parish missions, Fr. Christian has poured his heart into empowering young people. His leadership has always been about giving them a voice, encouraging their gifts, and helping them discover who they are in the eyes of God. Over the past 25 years, under his guidance, we have seen youth groups grow and connect across Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, and Western Australia – building a truly national community rooted in the charism of St Eugene.
Fr Christian’s legacy lies not only in the programs, events, and groups he shaped, but in the thousands of lives touched, friendships formed, and vocations nurtured. We cannot thank him enough for all he has put into OYA – his creativity, pastoral care, and unwavering commitment and support to young people. The good news is that he’s not going far – Fr Christian will continue his support of OYA as chaplain, which means we’ll still be blessed by his presence, wisdom, and support.
And now, a new chapter begins. Fr Joshua Nash OMI is stepping in as the new director of OYA. Fr Josh has already been a big part of OYA for many years and will continue working alongside the National Coordination Team to continue moving OYA forward. Fr Josh brings a lot of energy, joy, and passion for the mission with youth and we are excited to see where the road ahead will take us together.
We give thanks for Fr Christian, and we welcome Fr Josh, and we pray for them both as they continue to walk with the young people in the spirit of St Eugene.
